COVID-19 Shortens U.S. Life Expectancy by >1 Year

The COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed more than 336,000 lives in the United States in 2020, has significantly affected life expectancy in this country, researchers have found.

Because of the pandemic deaths last year, life expectancy at birth for Americans will shorten by 1.13 to 77.48 years, according to the joint report from researchers at the University of Southern California and Princeton University (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 2021;118[5]:e2014746118.
